You can use or not use soapy water on almost any vinyl. 3M makes A LOT of different vinyls. If it is ControlTac from 3M then just be carful putting it down dry. But it still can be applied wet. All soapy water does is give u time to move the vinyl around.

If you diy and have never done it I would strongly suggest soapy water but all u need is to MIST the adhesive side and the roof just enough so that it's still sticks to the car but still is movable on the car and you can pick it up easily. DO NOT apply to much or it will take forever to dry and be extremely hard to work with. I would try to put it down dry. I would remove half the paper from the back and start from the middle and work my way out (from center to door) But it is difficult to do so for the inexperience guys I would suggest soapy water.
