I believe if its 2+2 its a spourts coupe. If its a german or italian sports coupe its suddenly accented to Coupé. And if its a 2 seater its a sports car. Lol.
Either way, OP you gotta realize the 2 seat sports car market is Tiny. You have the miata, a 4 banger, the Z, a 6, then you have a corvette V8 and then you can throw in Bimmer another 6. The only car of all that actually directly competes with the Z is the vette because it comes in convertible and hardtop as well. The others are verts and maybe the Z convert compares but the Z coupe is out in the cold.
I must admit though, the op has somewhat of a point. If you notice? The nissan brand as a whole gets very little press. The G which I think competes on many levels due to having many variants, from coupe, convert, and sedan still garners very little press in comparos. It does seem like honda or bmw can add a toilet paper dispenser to there cars and it makes the front cover of C&D, R&T and blog on the internet. The altima which I feel is the only family sedan with a true sports car suspension and true sports car gearing in manual mode with the 3.5se gets no respect for this feat. The altima will knock your socks off in street driving compared to the accord, hyundai or toyota. The only sedan to give close to this much FWD fun is a mazda 6. But nissan won't get that press.
When the Z came out it was all about SYNCRO and NISMO. It didn't seem to matter that Nissan perfected the automanual slushbox with the 7at. It didn't matter that the 7at is the only slushbox that 98% mimmicks a dct. Vvel got some press but not what it desrved. And after 3 model years I have yet to read a review on the non sport 370z compared to a sport. I have no idea on performance or brake quality on the base Z. I have not read how does a base Z compare in features, quality compared to other cars priced at around 32k.
Maybe its not done because without sport and touring package the Z is substandard??? Maybe it offers more in the price point??? I don't know? But I would like to read about it from several magazines even if the only comparo is price. I don't believe "you don't cross-shop a Z vs a camaro, mustang, bmw," like a lot of people say cuz I have seen many a convert on this forum and others, so indirect comparos are necessary sometimes.
In conclusion, though the OP picked a Totally wrong battle with this thread, there is a lot of truth to what he is saying as a general statement toward not only Z but the nissan brand.
