Had my 2pm appointment today at a different dealership, and this tech heard it right away. After a couple minutes poking around, he got pretty close to the root cause, but not quite.
There is a "white plastic bracket" with two wiring harnesses connected. By applying pressure to the bracket mounting points and/or the wires themselves (I'm not sure), he was able to change the pitch and volume of the tone. It's not necessarily that bracket/wire causing the problem since there could be other connected components above. Even with a flashlight, the area is hard to inspect without removing the glove box entirely.
Next Thursday, they'll remove the glove box and get a close look. I'm optimistic that this guy will identify the suspect component then.
BTW, my car is a base sport, so it's not Nav related.
