my girl works for geico and I just called her about this. Her reply was no insurance company is allowed to raise your rates for comprehensive which is where vandalism falls under. I am unsure of your insurance company but she said geico will let you pic your shop of choice. How it would work is call your insurance company as soon as possible since comprehension requires you to report the damage as soon as you notice it. At that point they will ask you to get a estimate and to fax/email to the claims department. Once they receive the estimate they will authorize you to take it to the shop and a local adjuster will go examine the damage. Reason mainly for that she said is so they can negotiate price with shop. Make sure the body shop does not try to lower the quality of work to lower the price to the adjuster she said. once the work is approved they will require you to pay your deductible and you will be all set from there. She said also don't be alarmed if the adjuster wants to look at the car before you can pick it up because they had issues with people claiming comprehensive and installing aftermarket parts to have them painted, since they will only cover the car in factory form unless you let them know of any modifications. Let me know if you have any other questions because I will ask her
