I dont know what they are called, but you essentially put them in front of your rear tires. They fold up into a pretty small item. There are grooves for your tires to grip and the bottom is the same pattern, just reversed. I have not tried them on ice or snow, but I got them from the automotive/winter section in Target. Maybe next to hand warmers? I forget..
