OP- You have a wife to consider so you may be stuck. I put 50 miles on my buddies '08 335i. Nice car. Feels planted on the road and
quiet. He is on his third fuel pump under warranty (and BMW is giving him grief about lemon laws*). I hope your car is more reliable. If not, as a working stiff, you may need a car not even discussed here. I love my Z and recommend it to some. In your case, with a nice sporty car, listen to the wife.
* because previous lease holder had one of the three pumps replaced.
