Another thing to consider is, even if you are a good safe driver, you're going to be parking the car in the school parking lot around a whole slew of other noob drivers. Theres no garuntee even if you drive perfectly that some other kid isn't going to accidentally hit your parked car.
My personal opinion is that no new driver should ever start on a new car. Find a beater to learn on, borrow your Dad's car for dates. I truly believe when you learn on a beater and finally get something nice the appreciation factor for the new vehicle more than doubles. I started off on an '87 Ford Taurus Station wagon, while I hated it at the time, looking back I wouldn't have changed a thing.
