In a lot of cases, you're right, but there are people who may have 3 other kids that you're not seeing, or may have large dogs, or may frequently transport large items such as furniture.

In those cases, the SUV is really being used to its potential.

And then you have the real offroad SUV's, like the FJ Cruiser or Xterra. Those things are usually being driven on city streets, while a minority of that ownership crowd will take it out mudding or rock climbing, which is what those vehicles are supposedly for.
