Well...I owned a TT for 7 years and their rims are no more susceptable to bending than any others. This based on my 53,000 posts on an Audi TT forum and the info I've gleaned over the years.. They're pretty strong actually. It all boils down to where you live. Northeast? Probably high potential for damage at some point. PA roads really stink. On the other hand a rim can be straightened for $100 or so.. Municipalities will pay for replacements if you plead your case.. If you're the type that needs that security umbrella then go for it. I prefer to self insure, and in a lot of years and over 57 cars have never suffered a debilitating wheel or tire injury. I can count the flats I've had on one hand too so you can see where it would be throwing money away for me..As would their windshield program and paint protection program. I'm just lucky I guess...
As a rule of thumb, these programs are usually marked up 100% and the dealer has marked it up again from MSRP I'm sure. This insurance policy probably costs them $200-$250. 5 or so years ago When I was in Motorcycle retail we sold similar products. The sales rep made a big deal about how AIG underwrote their company. I guess you know where that deal went..Chew em down, and be sure to read the fine print. The website is not that informative..!!
