My (personal!) main problem with buying $3k+ wheels is this:
They are just as easy to steal as a cheap wheel no one cares about. Wheel locks, alarm, etc...it doesn't matter. A thief will steal volks long LONG LONG before he even considers a brand such as Rota.
When I had rotas on my old WRX, no one tried anything. I had zero worries about someone grabbing them. My roomate has BBS LM's on his S2000 and is terrified to leave it somewhere unmonitored for a while. Same with my other roomate when he bought Advan RG-IIs for his S2000.
Said S2000 on RG-II's was stolen from my driveway a week later and he was out the cost of those shiny new pricey wheels. It happens, I know, but it happens a lot more in South Florida I guess.
In the end it boils down to what a person likes, wants and can afford. I would never look down on anyone for getting knockoff wheels, nor would I call a person rolling around on Volks an idiot for spending so much. If the end result looks good, who gives a ****?

I see your point but I think you're looking at it wrong, look up the top 10 cars most likely to get stolen... they are old hondas and toyotas etc. The average, every day, beater, cheap car is more likely than the exclusive unique car. Same with wheels, stealing high value wheels only causes more attention to the thief, harder to sell and not get caught. That goes for all aftermarket wheels, cheap too. OEM wheels are the ones that get stolen more than any Volk, Rota, XXR wheels out there. Really shouldn't be scared of getting them stolen, should never be an issue when purchasing/choosing wheels.
I kind of agree with you in looking down/looking up to people because of wheels. It's not a custom built turbo, all you did is write a check, or clicked buy... no accomplishment there. On the other hand, if you have sports package Rays, you cant go and buy cheap cast wheels... that's pointless, even if form > function rule applies, our OEM wheels look more than great, and are forged light high quality as well. Can't expect to not get a few WTFs? out of it in a thread on these forums.
