How many miles are on this car? Usually the clutch take up on these cars will start very close to the firewall when new, and as it wears in will come up.

Yes, the clutch is adjustable but it isn't any easy adjustment. The adjustment is made by changing the length of the push rod connected to the clutch pedal, the specifics are in chapter CL of the repair manual. Given that the clutch should have been factory set correctly I would be a little curious why it is so high.
