also, add in the fact that just b/c someone is in possesion of a nice car doesn't mean they are really wealthy enough to afford it. These days, all you need is decent credit, and the willingness to take on a huge debt in order to 'own'(but not really).

also it could be a leased car. I think most people who would hate on a nice car owner would think 'oh, nice car, they must be so rich they paid cash for it. fvck them.

but honestly, i think its mostly influenced by being totally aloof. Jeremy clarkson had quote that went something like this:

"People who drive rubbish cars should not be allowed to drive. Here's why. If you drive a rubbish car, it means you don't like cars. If you don't like something, then you can't be any good at it, and if you're not any good at driving, you shouldn't be allowed to drive"

obviously, he is kidding around but he does make a certain point. If you drive a shitty car (And its your ONLY car, not your beater or w/e) chances are (not necessarily) that you really don't care about cars at all. as long as it gets you from a-b, you don't care what it is, how it looks, how it drives or anything. So chances are, when you pull into a parking lot and you see a really nice car, it doesn't really register as a nice car. it's just a car, and you park next to it for no apparent reason. You park very close because you don't care about cars, and can't understand why someone would care if you invaded the 'space' of your vehicle.

there are a lot of people out there that don't give a rats *** about cars. There was a girl in my high school that, beyond the color and number of doors, couldn't tell the difference between cars. She'd look at a 7 series bmw, and not understand the difference between that and a black dodge stratus. it just didn't register. they were both just black sedans.
