A higher end radar detector will pick that up well in advance and give you time to avoid a potential ticket. I have the new Passport 9500ix which has GPS. If it picks up the same signal three times it filters it out and you never hear it again. It also tells you of any red light or speed cameras too, in fact it warned me this week of a red light camera ahead.

I have the older 9500i. It has saved me many times. I rarely go more than 9 over the limit except when I have a rabbit.
A rabbit is someone who is gong faster than you. You get behind them, by at least 20 car lengths, and when they get tagged by the radar/ laser gun your detector goes off so you have time to stab the brakes to slow down.
Works like a charm.
