Some HKS Racing Full Titanuim exhausts have holes in the tip to bolt in a silencer. It's a JDM thing for paddock politness at the track. That transalted into some Carbon Ti and Hi-Power exhausts having the same feature (to add a silencer).

The 370Z tip looks similar because of the bolt holes, but as stated above it because the tips can slide in and out for length adjustments. Your friends might be mistaking the inner stainless part of the tip that the titanium bolts to as a silncer becauase you can see it's a double wall in there.
