to sum it up in 3 short paragraphs:

if you want power and the large sound change, get a long tube intake. if you want just the sound change, get a short ram intake. No intake that is a short ram can be a cold air intake because it sucks in hot air from the engine compartment, where as long tube intake are cold air intakes because the filter is relocated to an area outside the engine compartment where it can suck in air cooler than the ambient air temp inside the engine bay.

With that said, the oem intakes are very well designed. Coupled with the K&N filters, the sound is very nice, yet very subtle, and the performance has been notably better than short ram intakes, with long tube intakes making more power above about 7k rpms.

If you want that extra power, your only choice is to get the long tubes. If sound is all you care about changing, go for the short ram, but dont expect any legitimate power gains. For those who are looking for a mod, just for the sake of modding, without sacrificing any extra cash or performance, the K&N drop ins are the way to go.
