You are in a pickle. If the head repair works it will be cheaper than a new car, yet the new car is a sure thing for reliability. Resurfacing the heads etc has worked and not worked for me in the past. Two Datsun B210's one was fixed, one wasn't.

I would not count on your new sales job to provide steady income the first year. How about a third choice. A cheap running car out of the $8K now, and with more financial certainty later, the Z. By waiting you may get a better interest rate with your new higher W2, offsetting the cheap cars cost. Just a thought. Good luck.
