Exactly. The 370z design was based off the 240z, end of story. Now the 240z was designed from cues off the 911, MG, 2000GT, and Austin martin of the late 60's. There are even some old photos of the designers working the clay model of the 240z with pictures and models of the 911 and MG in the background.
