I agree with ImportConvert. IME, American cars' drive-trains are tough. My '87 GT had 50K miles when I got rid of it...not a ton of miles, but enough. I didn't abuse the car, but it was well used. The motor never missed a beat. The trans held up well, too. Eventually, the third gear syncro became a bit balky, but it still shifted.
These days, there are few (if any) sacrifices when buying American. Overall quality/fit-and-finish is very competitive. I look forward to seeing what GM does with the C7 Corvette. If they give it nicer seats and interior materials, and a bit more solid feel, it will truly be a world class sports car.
