It appears Audi is using some sort of piranha type (also spider or SuperFlux) LED. These LEDs are generally brighter than standard 5mm round LEDs, and it can handle a tiny bit more current (50mA versus 20mA typical). It is square and has 4 pins, and is typically more rugged for automotive use. I suggested Nic to order and to try to fit these LEDs in the dimples. He says the brightness is quite overwhelming. Of course, this is nothing compared to using Luxeon with at least 100mA. Still... that would be overkill haha. However, my parking lights will have a single Luxeon K2 on each side.
This is as tacky as it gets with LED mods to my headlights (besides changing amber to white LED in sidemarker). :-) Consider it an evolution of the 350Z bumper reflector LEDs. Unlike the Audi, only the vertical LEDs in the dimples will be put in as this will flow well with the hood lines and the fangs. As for making it blink, it's a bit much, so I'll stick to simple - NO halos either.
After looking at the Audi headlights, I notice the orange reflectors. My headlights will retain the orange reflectors, and it will NOT be painted. However, the chrome underneath will be painted black. In theory, this will "darken" the reflectors.
The entire housing will be painted satin black. The silver painted parts will be left intact giving the housing a bit of contrast.
The plastic lens for the turn signals will be swapped out for something different that Nic says turned out very good, so that'll make my headlights look fairly unique. I've not seen photos yet.
Here's hoping for more pictures to come... they're planning a YouTube video as well.
