I think the main lesson you learned was to never buy the first year or two of a new year-model--especially from a domestic manufacturer. GM has ironed out most of the issues with the '08 and newer C6 models, though.
The '05's had a relatively weak differential...Changed in '06. Even through '08 they were having problems with the clutch paks and many owners required either the "secret Sauce" or a replacement.

BCM is the Body control module that handles pretty much everything the engine control module doesn't.
