Just to play the devil's advocate...

When has anything you've read about the VQ engine been 'standard'? All I've ever seen about it is how it's extremely difficult to disassemble and modify, benefits from a special ester oil, has unconventional coatings on some of its surfaces...just to name a few.

I wouldn't be surprised if the engine was designed to run a bit hotter than some other motors people have previously experienced.
