There really is no "good" wheel to put a spare on with a RWD car... that really sucks. You either compromise steering grip (very important) or unbalance the rear which delivers power.
Did you catch the douchebag that was driving the lifted truck? Sounds like the stereotypical small-d*cked "truck guy." He's technically liable since his speeding caused you to lose control of your car. For you it was a choice of A) getting rear ended by a lifted truck or B) quickly changing lanes to get out of the way. Either choice, it was that a-hole's fault.
