I think you absolutely right, it does turn off like the dome light when you close the door.
Oh and I finally installed my Illuminated Kickplates and I'm so Happy
I was so reluctant to do it myself, I even offered a 75 dollars on this forum to help me out but one of the member told me....
" It's so easy even the cavemen can do it"
That was my motivation
I'm not gonna let any cavemen beat me on this so I did it myself
