That's one of the big ones yes, the desired torque bias ratio for a track car is no more than 1.5:1 with full racing suspension (60/40 split), on a street it's often much higher 3:1, meaning that at most 75% of the torque can be sent to one side. The Torsen style (
torque
sensing) mechanical differentials are more popular on the track but they do wear out after a couple of years of use.
The viscous style uses slotted plates spaced close together so that the movement of one axle will accelerate the other (at a reduced rate), but as the oil heats up the torque transfer is reduced more and more. And as there is no torque sensing, the wheel receiving the majority of the power isn't necessarily the one with traction.
