Direct injection won't find it's way into "tuner" type vehicles for a while I bet seeing Direct Injection is very sensitive to radical modifications.. Chevy probably saw people wanting to boost the v8 Camaro in the future and felt the DI system would not tolerate it well. The PSI during the compression phase in the piston is ridiculous and under boost, I could see it not liking it one bit.
There's still room for improvement on the DI system, I'm pretty glad we don't have it in our Zs.. YET.

Cobalt SS/TC's are direct injection, along with anything else using the same motor (Sky Redline, Solstice GXP). So are MazdaSpeed3's, which is also turbocharged of course.
Almost guaranteed, the reason the SBC isnt DI yet is merely due to its design. It will take a radical redesign of the SBC.
