Default redundancy controls??

Ok I kinda understand limited radio controls on the steering wheel. They are convient and let's the driver keep his eyes outside the car. But why did Nissan come up with redundancy controls for the cruse contol? Hell the dash controls for the cruse are right behind the steering wheel controls. What the point? I believe they are simply put there for Aesthetics. Are they there to keep a symmetrical look on the dash. I don't know but I don't think I will ever find myself reaching around the wheel to use those controls.
