In the end, it's about a complete package, and for everyone it will be something different. Some people are willing to make the trade-off financially to get performance from the factory--I know I actually considered it on the Z. Driving around a heavily modified car is fun in some ways, but it is a PITA in a lot of others.

I agree that the journey is half the fun. Some things I didn't want to do though, like crack & sand a fiberglass bodykit. Ugh, that kind of work is awful! That said I do have coilovers and an exhaust for my NISMO. My only gripe for the NISMO is that Nissan had given it the same Brembo brakes (6-pot/4-pot) it did on the NISMO 350Z.
