Nissan also has emissions and MPG to juggle -- even N/A valve timing may not be optimized for best power.

It all depends on how much air you are flowing...

Add better intakes (especially with FI) and higher lift earlier in the rev range may make gains; speaking of FI, turbos are exhaust restrictions, so playing with cam phasing may indeed help spool up and make more power too.

I have a good bit of experience tuning VVTLi on Toyotas, and there is definitely potential power to gained from adjusting valve timing and lift.
