T tops
T tops.
The discussion about body flex, lesser handling, etc is in our heads from years of reading and hearing it from others (I belief too - eg. Boxter vs Cayman slalom) . I had the 300 ZX tt which had the sport suspension, HICAS, vs non turbo convertible to choose from in 1995. So it was a simple choice: I had always wanted a rag top, but the t tops on the twin turbo gave me the best of both worlds. It turns out my gal hates the wind and sun on her face, so I could run with only the drivers side top removed. While not perfect, a compromise we could both live with.
Re scratching T tops: I was always carful to painstakingly put them in their supplied pouches, then strap them down. Maybe two minutes for both. Since I used the same care I always give my cars, I never had a scratch.
Biggest draw back to t tops: Poor storage option. Once I got to the store I had to put them back on to get the groceries in the trunk. My buddy had a Honda "Del Sol" which had a place in trunk lid that accepted the hard top. Then he could still use the trunk for something. Hats off to Honda engineers.
