This powerplant puts out 211 bhp, making it much less powerful than the gasoline engine in the current Z, but torque is rated at nearly 400 lb.-ft. Can I say...uh...NO THANKS. You're an idiot if you think the Z would be better with an ecotech-esque DIESEL engine, or a hybrid.
and my gut feel tells me that the original Mr. Z will never, ever let his car get a V8 out of the box. the 370Z already goes against his basic tenet of offering a good quality and affordable sports car by its hefty tag (in comparison to previous model Zs). putting a v8 and jacking up the price even more? not going to happen.
