Well, So far so good. I did what your buddy did and lifted up the front X-Pipe with a jack and tightened the front cat bolts as close to even as possible with the shape of the flange. Then I loosely put on the rest of the bolts and the exhaust. Then I kept the jack on the X-Pipe by the cross member and tightened up the 4 bolts right behind there aligning those flanges as best I could as well. Then finally tightened up the last 4 bolts before the canisters and made sure the tips were centered. Then, I let down the jack on the x-pipe and it stayed put and did not come down on the cross member.... Thank goodness. So, my only conclusion is that if you can try to loosen your bolts again and start by aligning the cat bolts first and go from there you MIGHT be able to gain some clearance.
I was worried when I saw it but I have a good 1/2 in of clearance at that point so I don't think I will have any trouble. **crosses fingers**
