Had an interesting chat with MOT yesterday. If We from Ontarion buy a car out of province, we won't pay the provincial taxes in the purchase province because the car isn't registered there. We pay it when we register here in Ontario. We will pay GST at the point of origin though. As of July 1, PST and GST were replaced with HST here in Ontario. So guess what? When you register, you have to pay the full 13% because PST does not exist anymore and they have no way of only charging the 8% (you've already paid the GST portion). So, MOT called Rev Can for me and asked how they would handle that. The answer, you have to pay the full 13% and then apply to Rev Can to get a refund on the GST portion you paid in the other province.

Now, why do I see that getting all screwed up and me never getting my refund if I buy out of province?

Freaking taxes!

The search continues............
That's weird.. Atlantic Canada must operate differently then, unless the person on the other side had a wrong information...
I purchased my 370z in Montreal, had them specifically mention that i've paid 5% GST. When I registered my car in NB, I only paid remaining 8%

Atlantic Canada had HST prior to ON.

Who knows, laws change...
