I actually took your advice, went got the tire back from them, literally drove across the street and the tire shop across the street patched it by injecting it with tire compound and what looked like melted compound on top.
I know it's probably not something I want to be on the track with but it's better than unexpectedly spending $600 on tires right now, especially with all that tread still on it.
Everyone has been baffled at the chances of that happening though, I still can't believe it. The second tire shop I went to the guy was like "how the hell did you manage that?!"
