Yes, now that you said it, that's what I remember hearing, the "rev limiter."
I was under the belief that the rev limiter will prevent the driver from blowing the engine because of high revs - BY MISTAKE - OR ONLY ONCE IN A WHILE.

Does the rev limiter actually prevent this by not allowing the engine to rev high enough to cause a problem?
