Your revs should always match your speed. You can cruise in 3rd going 35mph for example. Keep your revs under or around 3000 rpm unless your accelerating and you should be fine. You don't need to keep the rev's up to go fast. Just work on shifting faster instead of putting strain on the engine. The big draw to having a manual is your ability to anticipate when to shift. Staying a gear lower than "cruising" will give you the same effect your looking for. You can drive it like a race car, it your car and your money. I could be wrong, but I thought the Z has a black box. If your engine blows up, don't blame Nissan for voiding your warranty

Just so you know, keeping the rev's up will heat up the oil faster than you think. Limp mode will kick in & won't let you pass 3500 rpm to save the engine.
