I think it happens when someone doesnt have a theme with their car or an idea on what they want to do. Keeping the car simple and clean is personally the best way to go. As long as there isnt gull wing doors, a 35 foot wing on the car, hydrolics, and spinners it should be fine.

I don't mind people modifying the looks of a car tastefully, and performance and handling related mods are great, assuming they actually work for some real purpose. I draw the line at mods that are intended to give some sort of "racing" look but impart no substantive benefit to the car and driver. So yeah, spinners are tasteless, and giant wings fall into the "bullsh*t performance mod" category, at least for street cars.
Personally, I'm hoping to keep the exterior of my car as stock as possible. My car will be a "sleeper", as much as any 370 can be
But that said, there's a lot of room for subjective interpretation on all of this, and I'm not gonna go trying to enforce my opinions on someone else.
