This makes me wish I had a picture of the rat I found one day in the engine bay of my dad's car (older Acura) that I was driving at the time. I woke up one night to hear a scratching noise coming from around my garage. I was all worried I had a rat in the crawlspace. Later that day I popped the hood for another reason and saw him scurry around and dance a little jig on the engine cover. I drove to Home Depot to get a dowel and tried to poke him out, but no go. After parking outside for a week I think the local cats got him. All in all he probably rode around for ~100 miles in the engine bay.
Lesson learned: avoid parking in or near wooded areas or areas with heavy brush at all costs. I follow this rule without exception in my 370Z.
