i use the crease marks as initial guide and then use a pen to draw lines, cut the template with scissors, etc. if i cut too much i use masking tape from both sides and re-try. it's all trial and error. making the 3 holes for the HU trim hvac was hardest because i didnt remove the trims out of the car to make it.
it's a very primitive tedious process.
