Independence Day is a day when we as Americans officially announced we would no longer be ruled by someone half a world away who did not understand our unique issues and problems. We backed up our decision with an 8-year war on our own soil. 25,700 Americans sacrificed their lives for our independence from Tyranny, more than double what our enemy lost trying to keep us. Sure, let's keep on with the BBQs, parades, and fireworks, but let's make sure we remember why we do it and make sure our kids understand as well. This isn't just another federal holiday, it's a reminder that Americans will only tolerate so much loss of liberty before we stand shoulder to shoulder to take action.
