a lot of people when they are new look at the clutch as this pedal that has to be fully engaged or fully disengaged, and the faster they switch between those two the better. There is a difference between smoothly engaging the clutch and riding the clutch. You do need to ride the clutch for a second when engaging at lower engine speeds from n-1-2 but its not RIDING THE CLUTCH its smoothly engaging the gear. Once you drive for a bit you realize that the clutch isn't this evil pedal, its a way of controlling the car.
