I guess it is an "in" thing. It is rather ubiquitous - there's a dude with a white Camry on my block who tinted his tails... and I've even seen it on clunky color-faded minivans
But I tinted mine because I felt like there was just too much taillight; too much red in the rear. And I only partially tinted the taillights on my car so its "different" haha.
