Datzun 370Z on the Track
Driven by Don Velocity
Minimum preparation includes:
Large Stillen oil cooler and oil thermostat
Carbotech XP10 front pads, XP8 rear pads
ATE brake fluid in brake and clutch hydraulic systems
Nissan Ester oil.
In 95 degree heat at VIR, oil temp ran 225 – 230. No “limp mode” problems.
In similar heat at Watkins Glen, the clutch pedal would not fully return. That’s a sure sign of the stock hydraulic fluid beginning to boil. No problems afterward at VIR with fresh, high-temp brake fluid in clutch system.
Tire pressure 40 psi front, 34 psi rear, on track. Less understeer with modified tire pressures.
Driving on totally stock suspension and OEM Bridgestone RE050A tires. Car and tires now have 7,000 miles. That includes 10 track days. Tires have reasonable grip, wet or dry, for stock street tires.
