it does not matter.... it just means the lower bar, cannot transfer its loads to the rest of the structure, so its always in compression and is prone to bending... but the loads will never be there for that to occur....

Personally i would tie it in... I like the two main bar idea... but tied together like a "k" truss would be good. Or bowing the bottom bar so that it is pre loaded and transfers energy to the top "triangle" structure.

Either way... again the loads will never deform this thing... unless you decide to drive off the damn empire state building.
