After having a few front end wrecks, it is a good possibility that it is near being totalled. The front end of cars are meant to crumple when in a front end collision and cause massive damage. I wrecked a Celica years ago and it didn't look nearly as bad as yours does and it took the estimator about two minutes two total it. There is a lot of internal damage done when the airbags go off also, let alone the price of just the bags, which ain't cheap.

We could all speculate all day long, but your best bet is just to let the insurance do their thing.

Glad you're okay OP. I can picture the situation that you are talking about and it's a crap shoot at best. I've had the exact same thing happen but was able to avoid the accident. Not because of any amazing driving skills, just pure reaction that thankfully was correct. Just file it away in your "in case this happens again" file.
