i used to live in nyc as well. if you can, best bet is coilovers, specially in the winters when you cant get a lowered vehicle through the snowy streets and potholes full of ice. you can raise it for winters and lower for summers, and soften it up as much as you want and stiffen it up for track days. my dad still lives there and drives a cobalt ss with h&r springs. i mind you that he is 53 years old and loves his h&r's. ive never got a chance to get a test drive but ill take his word for it. so if your going to go springs, look into the h&r's, but i would recommend coilovers
