First, I would like to thank Ryan@Forged for a great deal on my GO PRO HD. He shipped it super priority so that I could attend
my first AUTOX during first week of March.
After the Autox event, for some weird reason, my Go PRO HD stopped charging. I couldn't charge it. I also couldn't turn it on. Ryan also replied very promptly and forwarded my issues to GO PRO Warranty Dept. Within a week, I received a BRAND NEW camera from GO PRO company
.
So, today weather was beautiful and I had few hours to kill. So I decided why not make some videos along with some 370Z mounting pictures. I can change video recording settings, backlids,etc and see how the video looks.
Before we start, let me write down some basic info. GO PRO HD records in following formats:
Quote:
* 1080p = 1920x1080 pixels (16:9), 30 fps, 15 Mbit/s data rate
* 960p = 1280x960 pixels (4:3), 30 fps, 12 Mbit/s data rate
* 720p = 1280x720 pixels (16:9), 60 fps, 15 Mbit/s data rate
* 720p = 1280x720 pixels (16:9), 30 fps, 8 Mbit/s data rate
* WVGA = 848x480 pixels (16:9), 60 fps, 8 Mbit/s data rate

Two back lid options:
Below I will post my video settings, mounting pictures and a sample video so that you can see how it looks. Also, PLEASE feel free to contribute in this thread if you own a GO PRO HD camera. Follow the simple format you can see below. Lets keep the mounting pictures limited to 2 . Thanks.

EXTERIOR
Location: Exterior. Rooftop.
Video setting: 1280x960P
Frames: 30 FPS
Backlid: OPEN Backlid.
Impression: Pretty good. Didn't notice as much wind noise as with the closed backing (During my autox, I used closed).

Location: Front fangs.
Video setting: 1280x960P
Frames: 30 FPS
Backlid: OPEN Backlid
Impression: I love this view! This should be a good one during your track days.
YouTube Video embed:
Location: Rear diffuser area (between exhaust)
Video setting: 1280x960P
Frames: 30 FPS
Backlid: OPEN
Impression: Wow, the sound quality was amazing since wind wasn't hitting the camera. You can hear the exhaust ROAR in this setup. If you're testing your exhaust, this should be a great mount. BTW, this video was flipped via Windows live movie maker. Very simple to do (1 click). Love how the suspension moves when the Z is in motion

Location: Ground effects/side mount.
Video setting: 1280 x 960p
Frames: 30 FPS
Backlid: OPEN backlid
Impression: This was something I decided to try just out of curiosity. I think it came out pretty good. During turns, this view is pretty entertaining to watch.

Location: Driver side rear quarter panel
Video setting: 1280x720p
Frames: 60 FPS
Backlid: CLOSED backlid
Impression: My VERY first attempt at recording. This can be a pretty good location. This was shot with closed door hence the horrible wind noise. But with open lid, this may record the exhaust tone too. I gotta try it again!

Location: Driver side fender
Video setting: 1280x720p
Frames: 30 FPS
Backlid: CLOSED backlid
Impression: My VERY first attempt at Autox recording. This is something new I decided to try. May not be the best position. At least now you know how it look .

Before I continue, this setup will be the comparison setup. I am going to compare OPEN Backlid vs. Closed in the following videos. All other settings were unchanged.
Location: Passenger side window
Video setting: 1280x720p
Frames: 60 FPS
Backlid: CLOSED
Impression: Man, horrible wind noise! Using the closed backlid gives you this high-pitched wind noise that you DO NOT get with the open lid. I will ONLY use close lid from now on if a.It's raining out, or b. I'm diving into a lake with my 370Z. Also please note, I only drove upto 60 MPH in this video.
YouTube Video embed:
Location: Passenger side window
Video setting: 1280x720p
Frames: 60 FPS
Backlid: OPEN backlid
Impression: Probably one of the best setting. During the begining of this video, I speed up to 90 MPH. Even though there are still wind noise, this is probably the BEST you'll get out of this camera during track events. I highly recommend the OPEN backlid

I'm looking for more exterior submissions from you guys
INTERIOR:
Location: Top upper left hand corner (camera is flipped)
Video setting: 1280x960p
Frames: 30 FPS
Backlid: OPEN backlid
Impression: I liked it a lot! Quality is really good. I could have gotten a little wider image if I selected 1280x720p. Video WAS flipped via Windows live movie maker (very easy to do). I also have another interior video mount idea which I'll post in future

Miscellaneous Mounts :
Helmet Mount
Location: Right side of a helmet.
Video setting: 1280x720p
Frames: 60 frames per second.
Backlid: Open
Impression: Beautiful videos EVERY single time. If you're Kart, this is the BEST possible helmet mount in my opinion. The sound is perfect with the open backlid. Thanks to ilive2win for this mount technique

I'm eagerly looking to fill up this thread with more interior mount submission from you guys
