STS claims long piping actually adds to charge cooling. The problem is since you no longer have a muffler, you are kind of stuck with the sound it has plus the debris issue you've pointed out.

To me, the best thing is under hood overcrowding/heat issues are avoided. I'd be terrified to drive though a puddle though!
