Most drag races on street tires are even or close to even up until the first 60' or so where you can really get the power down and the faster car actually begins to pull.

I totally agree. I had the snow tire advantage which are sticky even at low temperatures
But the comment is that finally the American V6 cars (Camaro/Mustang) are quite drivable and actually peppy, their not the sub 200hp dogs they used to be.
