you missed my point though, my point was that i have the right to have my car fixed at the shop of my choice. this protectionism by the manufacturers basically twists your arm into having to go to their dealers even after the warranty expires. this practice by nature is anti-competitive which i believe there are laws against. dealers are not maintaining a competitive edge by having good prices or good customer service or even good technicians. they do it by having a monopoly over diagnostic information and equipment.
