People seem to forget that research and development isn't free (price isn't just the sum of the materials involved), and to get something that sounds that good, I'm sure they had to do a hell of a lot of both.

Point taken, but on that same token...You would need to sit with an average exhaust shop charging the normal rate of $75 an hour for
66 hours to get to the same price of that exhaust. That's you by yourself to a single exhaust so there would be no spreading the development cost across multiple exhausts you're selling.
When a company makes an exhaust, they don't have a specific pitch or sound goal, they just want to make it sound "great" so when they think they have a winner they stop. As far as power goes, they don't have a target for that either. Tiny tweaks in angles, bends and smoothness will not net more than an hp or two from the original main design.
I definitely appreciate a cool exhaust, but I could never in a million years justify the price of one. That's all I'm getting at. Specially since I don't think Top Secret makes better performing exhausts than your Stillen or Fast Intentions.
Say that they made 4-5hp more from the top secret exhaust....well that exhaust is $4000 more than a Stillen one...youre paying $1,000 per horsepower for what? their research and development?
Again, just my opinion and I don't mean to offend anyone or start a flame fest so don't by any means take it personally.
